North Conway, NH – Cranmore Mountain’s Assistant SnowSports Director, Meghan Kelsey, was recently named to the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) Eastern Development Team. The Dev Team is a group of highly skilled Level III ski and snowboard instructors that are training to become members of the Board of Examiners. Team members receive training that focuses on sharpening skiing or riding skills, teaching skills, people skills, and professional knowledge. The goal is to develop highly effective clinicians to deliver a wide range of educational events to the membership.
Kelsey joined the Cranmore team last October, stepping into a brand new position at the resort.
Coming from Aspen Snowmass, she has taught skiing at several resorts on the East Coast as well as in Colorado and Perisher Resort in Australia. Kelsey holds a Bachelor’s in Political Science from Hartwick College and a Master’s in Teaching from the University of Vermont.
To be eligible for the PSIA-E Alpine Development Team, applicants must be a current member of PSIA-AASI Eastern Division, Level III Certified, and actively teaching skiing for an accredited Snowsports School. Members are chosen through a demanding and competitive exam. Only a few other instructors in the region made this year’s team.
“Making this team has been a goal since I received my PSIA level 1 certification at Cranmore 10 years ago. It was a lot of hard work to get to this point. I’m so grateful for all the trainers and mentors I’ve had along the way. I am excited to see how we can use this opportunity to grow the Snowsports school at Cranmore.” Said Kelsey.
“Having an educational staff member on our team is a huge asset for our snowsports school to be at the forefront of instructor development, training, and recruiting for Cranmore. I am excited to have a current PSIA education staff member working full time with us again. I look forward to seeing Meghan continue to grow and build our school’s reputation as the choice resort for guests and instructors in the Valley.” Said Cranmore’s SnowSports Director, Karen Dolan.
Alpine Development Team members serve a term of four years. Each of year requires a commitment of 15-20 days of education staff training, the required understudies, and potentially working as a group leader at educational events. Once members have completed the required training days and understudies, they will become eligible to try out for the Alpine Examiner Training Squad (ETS).
