CRANMORE MOUNTAIN RESORT CELEBRATES RECORD EARLY SEASON SNOWFALL WITH SNOW STRUDELS
NORTH CONWAY, N.H. (Dec. 18, 2018) - While TV meteorologists are busy tracking New England's nearly unprecedented early snowfall and cold temperatures so far this season, New England ski resorts have been dreaming up ways to celebrate this cold, white blessing with their visitors.
When Cranmore Mountain Resort in North Conway, N.H., opened on Nov. 17, 2018, it was its earliest opening on record, according Cranmore President and General Manager Ben Wilcox, who credits both early season snow, aggressive snowmaking efforts, and $2 million in snowmaking improvements this decade, including the addition of over 500 energy efficient snow guns.
As of Dec. 15, the start of its daily operations, the resort was open on approximately 70% its snowmaking terrain, with six out of eight lifts spinning above a 15- to 25-in. base.
A spoonful of sugar helps the skiers go down.
Cranmore is celebrating the deep stuff with what it calls "Snow Strudels" - homemade baked Austrian pastry dusted in powdered sugar and wrapped around bits of apple. If it snows six inches or more during the previous 24 hours, the first 100 season pass holders can enjoy a free apple strudel issued from the summit Meister Hut, from 11 a.m. - noon. The free strudels will be offered after six-inch snowfalls now through the end of the season.

Cranmore is already ahead of schedule with its snowmaking and will push for opening 85% of snowmaking terrain, weather depending, by Christmas, compared to 35% in 2009.
