Kid's Ski and Snowboard Lessons

Cranmore has been named one of the best places for kids skiing and snowboarding lessons in New England and New Hampshire

Book your junior ski lesson to secure the best availability – lessons on sale mid- November

At Cranmore we are all about helping kids learn to ski.  Our goal through our kids skiing and snowboarding lessons is to build a lifetime of enjoyment that comes from learning to ski or snowboard, in a fun and safe learning environment.  We’re here to get your child ready for snow no matter what their ability level, whether your children are just starting out, or have been on snow before.

New for 2020-21

This winter, safety is first and foremost in all our programming.  Private junior ski and snowboard lessons will be offered and will allow the instructor to customize your child’s lesson experience in a comfortable and safe learning environment.  Your child and their instructor will work together to build confidence and skill on snow.

Our re-invented kids ski school experience for this season includes:

  • Reserving junior ski lessons in advance – over the phone, or online.  Walk ups or same day reservations will not be available.   Plan ahead to guarantee availability and express check-in.
  • Private junior ski lessons for ages 6 – 12 with an option to add up to three friends or family members of similar ability levels, for a Friends and Family lesson.
  • One-on- one lessons for kids ages 4 and 5.  Parents will be encouraged to stay close by to assist with helping your child stand up on snow, balance, and use the bathroom, or use the chair lift.
  • Children will be required to undergo an online health- screening and temperature check prior to arrival, for the safety of our instructors and other guests.
  • Face coverings are required throughout the entire lesson.  Physical distancing will be practiced in all lessons with no physical assistance from instructors to students.
  • Rental information will be collected online, in advance.  Fully sanitized equipment will be ready for your child on arrival.
  • Childcare in our playroom will not be available this season.

Everything about your child’s learning experience has been designed to ensure your success and enjoyment on snow.  We use the Terrain Based Learning Method ™ in all our beginner kids ski and snowboard lessons.  Terrain Based Learning uses specifically shaped snow features to naturally control speed and body positioning, removing the traditional fears and anxieties associated with the first time sliding on snow.

Is it safe for my child to take a lesson? What are your enhanced safety protocols and how will you maintain physical distancing in a lesson?

We are truly committed to the safety of our employees and guests this coming winter:

  • To reduce touch points, all kid's ski and snowboarding lessons (including rental equipment) must be reserved online or over the phone in advance.  Walk-ups or same-day reservations will not be available for our kid's ski school this year.
  • We will only be offering Private kid's ski and snowboard lessons, with the option to add up to three family members or friends of similar ability for a Friends and Family lesson.
  • Physical distancing will be practiced during all kid's ski and snowboarding lessons. There will be no physical assistance from instructors to students. We may ask parents to stay close by, to assist with helping your child stand up on snow, balance, and use the bathroom.

  • Children will be required to undergo an online health- screening and temperature check prior to arrival, for the safety of our instructors and other guests.
  • Face coverings are required for both the instructor and child throughout the entire lesson.
  • Children and instructors who are in a lesson will be allowed to access the Arlberg Lodge for bathroom breaks and to warm up during scheduled lesson times. Parent access will be limited in the Arlberg Lodge. Getting dressed in the foyer area will not be allowed.
  • Rental information will be collected online, in advance, meaning fully sanitized equipment will be ready for you child on arrival.  Only one parent will be allowed to accompany their child/children into the Arlberg Lodge to pick up equipment.
  • Childcare in our playroom will not be available this season.

Why are only private lessons available? Last year there were group lessons?

We will only be offering Private lessons this season, with the option to add up to three family members or friends for a Friends and Family lesson.  This allows us to not only practice physical distancing during lessons, but to ensure that guests arriving to the resort together, stay together.

Social Distancing will be practiced during all kid's ski and snowboard lessons. There will be no physical assistance from instructors to students. We may ask parents to stay close by, to assist with helping your child stand up on snow, balance, and use the bathroom.

How should I dress my child for their lesson?

Winter often provides us with variable weather conditions in New Hampshire, sometimes within the same day, or even within several hours. Proper outdoor winter attire is recommended.

It is best to dress in layers, allowing your child to add or remove clothing as conditions and temperature change.

Kid's Ski School checklist:

  • A moisture wicking base layer made of synthetic material.  Stay away from cotton as it holds moisture that will eventually make your child feel cold.
  • A lightweight wool sweater, fleece, or turtleneck.
  • A single pair of medium weight wool or synthetic socks.
  • An outer layer consisting of a warm waterproof or water repellent winter jacket, and ski or snowboard pants.
  • Waterproof gloves or mittens.  Fleece is not recommended.
  • A face covering, googles or sunglasses.
  • Helmets are required if taking a lesson (and always recommended to wear), but if choosing not to wear one, a winter hat will help keep warm.
  • Sport Thoma Retail located in the base area offers all the accessories and necessities you may need to keep your child comfortable on the slopes.

Where do I go the day of my child’s lesson?

On the day of your child’s lesson, head to the Arlberg Lodge with your child ready to go on snow.  We will not be allowing kids to get dressed or store gear in the Arlberg Lodge.  Tickets will be pre-printed and waiting for pick-up in either the foyer of the building, or outside on snow.  During slower periods, you may enter the building to pick up tickets at the ticketing counters.  Only one parent will be allowed to accompany their child/children.  We will have a greeter at the front door to help monitor building capacity and to answer any questions.

Please arrive at our kid's ski school no earlier than 10 minutes prior to the lesson time.

Rental equipment MUST be picked up prior to this time.

What if my child does not have their own equipment?

Rental equipment is available, and must be reserved online or over the phone, in advance.  Same-day reservations or walk up reservations will not be available.

Rental information will be collected prior to arrival, allowing us to have pre-teched, fully sanitized equipment ready for your child on arrival.

What if we are late for our scheduled lesson? Can I move my reservation?

Your instructor was scheduled specifically for your child’s lesson.  Cranmore will not refund money or reschedule a lesson if you are late or miss your lesson entirely.

Please plan on arriving 10 minutes prior to the start of your lesson – or 45 minutes if picking up rental equipment.

Will my child’s lesson be cancelled due to weather?

Cranmore's kid's ski school schedules lessons instructors daily.  We do not cancel our kid's ski school lessons due to changing weather, storms or temperatures.  Please dress appropriately.
