NORTH CONWAY, NH –Cranmore Mountain Resort in North Conway, NH will open its new million dollar attraction, the Cranmore Mountain Coaster, on Saturday November 20th, almost a week ahead of its original November 26th opening date. The Coaster is the first of its kind to open in Northern New England including New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont. The only other coaster of its kind is currently in operation is at Jiminy Peak in Western Massachusetts.

Cranmore is hosting a special Grand Opening Event for the Coaster from noon – 4 p.m. on the 20th with special $6 single ride tickets. The ride is for all ages including kids older than 3 years. Children under 48” in height or less than 8 years old may ride with an adult. The Mountain Coaster is a year-round attraction that provides an exhilarating experience flying down the slopes of Cranmore, with views to Mount Washington and the Presidential Range. The ride features 2 person sleds that ride on stainless steel tubular rails. Each sled has its own handbrakes and the rider is in control of his or her speed at all times.

To start, riders enjoy a 1200-foot trip up the mountain in the 2-person sled. Then the gravity-driven ride begins, taking people down the looping turning track for 2,400 feet down the slopes. The coaster will operate year-round in nearly all weather.

After the special Grand Opening day, tickets are just $9 for one ride or $23 for 3 rides. Other specials and combo tickets including skiing and snow tubing are also available. The Coaster will open for regular operations starting Friday, November 26th to give holiday shoppers visiting North Conway’s outlets a fun activity to add to the festivities. The Coaster is a centerpiece of a $6 million revitalization of Cranmore taking place under new ownership announced in June, 2010. The resort also installed a new quad chairlift, moved and expanded its popular snow-tubing park, renovated 5 facilities, cut new learning terrain, installed 70 new energy-efficient snowguns and relocated a double chairlift.

“We’re proud that our team working with the coaster’s manufacturer, Weigand, was able to finish construction in just over seven weeks,” stated Cranmore president Ben Wilcox. “Weigand has installed over 170 of these coasters worldwide and we’re thrilled to offer the first one in northern New England. It’s a great complement to our skiing and snow tubing which are scheduled to open Nov. 26th.”
