Concord, N.H. – More than 200 members of the state’s tourism industry attended the 33rd N.H. Governor’s Conference on Tourism which took place at Waterville Valley Conference Center on May 5-6, 2009. Governor John Lynch addressed a lunchtime awards ceremony where the state’s top travel professionals were honored for their marketing, sustainability and travel development contributions. The industry’s “Mildred Beach Travel Person of the Year,” was presented to Ben Wilcox, general manager of Cranmore Mountain Resort and president of the N.H. Travel Council. Other award winners include Stephanie Seacord of Seacord/Leading Edge Communications who was presented with the Media Award; Pam Patoine of the Courtyard by Marriott in Concord which earned the Business Excellence Award; and the Glassover Family from the Nereledge Inn (North Conway) for the Sustainable Lodging Award.
Accepting the Dick Hamilton Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of her late husband, Ron Meade who served as the marketing and public relations director for the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, was Gail Mead. In honor of Mr. Mead’s commitment to New Hampshire, the Lakes Region and the hospitality industry the Lake Region Association presented Berlin High School senior Jay Gilbert with a scholarship to further his studies in Food Science and Technology.
