Just 5 weeks, or 34 days (who's counting?) until we turn on the snowguns, with Mother Nature's permission of course! After what feels like an endless summer (high 80's in mid September?!?!) our snowmaking crew is ready to get back at it, and are anxiously counting down the days as well.
This season, we've added 86 new high-efficiency snow guns to our inventory. These guns, are called LPX-Y Gen 3 or "Sledgehammers." These guns use 90% of water-pumping capacity, which used to be 50% or less, use 50% less air, meaning less electricity is used, and is able to produce two times the amount of snow.
While Sledgehammer technology was inventoed by Connecticut- based aeronautical engineer, Pentii Nikkanen, it was further developed by Brian and Tyler Fairbank of the Fairbank Group and SnowGun Technologies... because if owning and operating three resorts and a renewable energy company (EOS Ventures) wasn't enough, they now produce snowguns.
In addition to adding new snow guns, we've also replaced some of the snowmaking pipe on the hill including a new 10 inch water line on Ledges, which will increase our water capacity and pressure on the upper mountain.
As always, as we get closer to hitting the green light on this season, we'll be updating you on everything snowmaking, right here on our Snowmageddon Blog.
See you all soon!
