    Mountain Meisters

    About Meisters

The origin of Mountain Meisters dates back to the early seventies and the “Local Yolk’s” Race League; it is one of the largest and longest continuously running Race Leagues in the United States.  Cranmore Mountain Resort hosts 30+ teams with approximately 450 racers on 10 Wednesday’s throughout the season and even though it is a race league, the true focus of the program is to have fun and ski with friends, family and coworkers.  To paraphrase Herbert Schneider:  “If you live in the Mt. Washington Valley, skiing is part of your heritage. It is only right that everyone should have a chance to ski regardless of their financial situation. As a ski community, it is a sound investment in our future.”  Mountain Meisters provides the opportunity for affordable skiing, riding, and coaching to the residents of the greater Mount Washington Valley.

As a Mountain Meister, you have an excuse to ski or ride every Wednesday that Cranmore is open except for vacation periods, also get three additional Twilight Skiing tickets and tickets to attend two Meister Clinics.  Meister Clinics are offered throughout the season on Sunday Afternoons, Tuesday Mornings.  Participants choose if they want to focus on racing or personal skiing.

League Racing begins on the first Wednesday, of the first week, of the year, unless it's New Years Day, and runs for the next 10 weeks (excluding February vacation week).  Each team and individual accumulates place points over the ten week race series looking to win and earn bragging rights for their division. There are many individual and team awards that everyone strives for to include Division winners, fastest racers (Hot Jocks) and of course the Best Team Award! It is a great day on the mountain with friends, weekly raffles, friendly competition and apr├Ęs ski in Zip's Pub. Not to mention getting out of work early!

    What’s New for 2016-17?

New location, expanded hours for racing and smaller team size

Weekly races will now take place on the new NASTAR course located on the Alley Trail.  This trail is accessible from the summit lifts and South Quad.  With the move to the Alley, we have doubled the lights to allow us to extend race hours to 6pm!  Lifts open at 9am, but racers can hike or skin to the top of the course on race Wednesdays starting at 8:45am.

There are 13 racers per team.  If you do not have a team, no problem!  Let us know during registration and you can race for one of the Cranmore captains.

    The Gibson Cup

The history of the Gibson Cup stretches back to the winter of 1938 and is named after one of Cranmore’s founding fathers, Harvey Dow Gibson.  The race has had a number of formats over the past 75+ years; most recently, the Gibson Cup was awarded to the overall winner of a two day combined race for New England Masters Series.  The weekend long event was comprised of a Giant Slalom and a Slalom race.  The overall winner of the 2-day event would have their names inscribed upon the Trophy that still hangs on the wall of Zip’s Pub.  The names on the Trophy are familiar to the ski racing community and include former US Ski Team members, Olympians and World Cup and Pro Tour Racers; but the race has not been held since 2011.

In 2017, the Gibson Cup is making its return as a 5-Race series held every other Wednesday Morning from 9:30 – 1:00 on “The Comp Slope”, in conjunction with but separate from Mountain Meisters.  The 2017 Gibson Cup will be comprised of 2 Giant Slalom Races, 2 Slalom Races, and 1 Super-G.  The SL & GS Races will be a two-run, combined time event, in accordance with USSA rules and regulations for Master’s racing.

Where the “Mountain Meisters” course is set to be as simple as possible, The Gibson Cup courses will be more challenging and fitting of the moniker “World Cup Wednesday”.

Where “Mountain Meisters” is focused on “Easy Fun” and “Social Fun”, the Gibson Cup is designed to be more competitive in Nature and to test each racer’s ability and consistency, through the use of a 2-Run Combined Time format.

    • $75.00 per racer for the Gibson Cup Series
    • This series is an optional add on to Mountain Meisters
