    Tips for a Good Experience

    • Book in advance! It saves you money and will put you at ease on the day or your arrival.
    • Reservations for KidsRule Camp are always recommended. Our instructor ratio to our guest is very important and this program can fill up fast during vacation periods.
    • Pick up your tickets in advance! The Arlberg Children’s Center is open extended hours to accommodate our guests arriving the night before to pick up your tickets and get you campers fitted in their rental equipment.
    • Label everything! We love masking tape and sharpies around here so if you forget to put your name on something just ask and we’ll gladly assist.
    • Arrive ready to go! It will be much easier if you dress your kids from head to toe before leaving home in the morning, and you are less likely to forget anything. This includes putting on snowpants, ski/snowboard boots, jackets, helmets, goggles (optional), gloves, and any other necessities.
    • Get a good night’s sleep! Be well rested for the day will improve the experience.
    • Eat breakfast! They don’t say breakfast is the most important meal of the day for no reason – your children will be expending a lot of energy during their day.

What about the rest of the family?

    • Mom and Dad, do you also need lessons? Check out Adult Lessons to find the right fit for you.
    • We haven’t forgotten about our littlest guest at the Mountain, visit the Age 3 & Under page for ideas on what your little ones can do during their visit to Cranmore.
    • Not planning to ski or ride today?  Check out all the activities and classes at Cranmore Fitness, or visit the Tubing and Mountain Adventure Park open weekends and vacation periods.

Ages & Skill Levels: KidsRule Mountain Camps are for children age 4-14. Five levels of instruction are offered: Red, Yellow, Green, & Blue. During your child’s lessons we teach the four basic skills (balance, rotary, edging, and pressure control) through games and drills. We use more moderate terrain for instruction in order to develop strong movement patterns which will carry over in your child’s ability to ski/ride on more difficult terrain and conditions. The colored levels do not specifically align with the trail markings.

Some factors which may influence your child’s KidsRule ability on any given day:

    • Is it your first time skiing/riding this year?
    • Will today’s conditions effect your child’s ability? Do we have fresh snow? Is it icy? Is it really warm?
    • Has it been multiple years since your child last went skiing/riding?
    • Did your child experience a growth spurt that drastically changed their ski or board length?

Determining Your Child's Ability Level: when you first start skiing or riding you may move up color levels quickly. The further up the levels you go the longer it takes to progress to the next color. For example, once you achieve the green level there are many different skills that need to be mastered in all conditions and on all terrain before advancing.  Our goals and expectations are to build strong basic skills in a fun and positive environment. We want each child to be challenged, as well as feel confident and successful at the end of each day.  A passion for skiing and snowboarding grows as children become more proficient in the fundamental skills of balance, agility, basic carving, and stance.  As your child progresses into a new color, do not be surprised when their instructor first introduces new skills or drills on easier terrain, giving them time to practice before taking the drill to more challenging terrain. Let’s master new drills in all conditions and all terrain before adding more challenging terrain.

Teacher/Student Ratios: our teacher/student ratios are managed daily to ensure the best on mountain experience. Both age and skill levels are factored into the management of a healthy teacher/student ratio.

    What is Terrain Based Learning?

Safety and Security: Helmets are required and offered free of charge. Each child is issued a safety code that is used by parents to pick up their child.
KidsRule instructors are consistently trained, tested, and CORI-checked.

Personal Progress Reports: Individual reports are issued daily, identifying performance advancements, areas of improvement, and next steps. All progress reports are formatted to make the transition to other KidsRule programs seamless.

Communication: For those who register in advance, parents will receive a pre-arrival email outlining specifics regarding their visit to the mountain, in addition to important facts about the KidsRule program.
